Round-Up

If Hot Chip hasn't yet completely changed the world as you know it, today just might be the day. Dedicated fans are familiar with the latest track Shake A Fist, which has been played at their live shows over the past year.

Behold - a real studio recording!

Watch out Kavinsky, Danger treads closely behind your footsteps - and does it better. Give a listen to the 11H30 stream at his MySpace while you're at it.
- Danger - 9H20

It took me forever to pick up Nite Versions, but I'm glad I finally did! I was confused as to why this track hasn't received greater recognition because it's definitely my album favorite.
- Soulwax (Nite Versions) - Compute

I was just getting sick of this so-catchy-I-can't-stand-it-anymore single, and then this RIB remix shows up.
- Chromeo - Bonafied Lovin' (Riot in Belgium Remix)

Fight & Kiss

The folks behind We Are Wolves were nice enough to let us share a download of the song Fight & Kiss. Don't forget to check out the album next month. Show labels the positive effects of blogging!

Circulate

I'm almost certain Rex the Dog is one DJ, even though rexthedog.net refers to him in a plural sense. There's a chance the dog pictured beside him in promo illustrations is supposed to make up the "we."

I'm not really sure.

But what I do know, Rex has magically created sounds that somehow feel both new and classic. He makes proper use of traditional dance floor beats and darker retro synth leads, without getting all blog-house-trendy about it (not that I have a problem with blog house... obviously).

Get the Circulate single (out on Kitsuné [have they ever let you down?])! There's a bitchin' B-Side titled Italian Blonde deserving of a place in your ever-expanding digital music library.

Total Solide / Coconut Night

Sometimes it's hard to break past "the single," especially in a time where new music is being released every five seconds. However, I was very fortunate to receive a copy of We Are Wolves' 2nd post-punk/electro adventure on Lala before it hits the U.S. on October 2. It's always exciting and refreshing to hear an album you like all the way through. Though it wouldn't hurt WAW to exhibit a little more flexibility in the overall sound, Total Magique (properly titled) is brimming with action.

We Gathered in Spring / Roscoe

After being discovered by Cocteau Twins bassist Simon Raymonde and having a music video directed by Jason Lee, one shouldn't judge Midlake too harshly over the fact that their MySpace page is filled with a bio reporting how fucking amazing and original they are. They actually are really fucking amazing, but let's hope this band from Denton, Texas doesn't go all Billy Corgan/Brandon Flowers/Norma Desmond on us. Come back down to earth, and keep making that super 70's sound, will ya?
